In the beginning...

It makes sense (to me) that the first post on a blog like this should be a little bit about the person in front of the keyboard. So let's start there.

My day job is set in the software industry. I've had the good fortune to lead some great teams at several companies with projects varying from software development environments to enterprise applications on mobile devices. Much of this career has been a positive challenge. I entered this field almost 20 years ago based on my intense interest in the creation process offered in software engineering. I stayed because the challenges grow and change over time and thus have kept me engaged for much of my career in a positive way.

With the possible exception of those 2 years at Siebel. But that I will leave to either my autobiography or my therapist.

I fill my free time with friends and family engaging in our mutual interests. I am fortunate to have people in my life with a broad range of hobbies and careers from game development to video production. I benefit from their experience and my intent is to pass some of this good fortune onto those with similar interests.

My interests vary broadly but I plan to cover topics related to:

- Digital photography

- Video production (SD and HD)

- Movies (I own >3500 DVDs, I may as well say something about them, how I catalog them and how I complain when they grow legs and disappear)

- Computing hardware (I have >20 machines in my home with an even split of Mac/PC along with Unix/Linux)

- Software development (My focus lately is on process and infrastructure for complex geographically dispersed projects so don’t expect the next greatest flocking algorithm from me)

- Gaming (I am an avid fan of RPGs and strategy games. My kids are fans of the consoles)

- Mobile devices

- Camping (My version involves a 24' RV with AC and a generator so don't be impressed)

- Off road vehicles (ATVs), motorcycles, and automobiles (The collection continues to grow)

A request - all that you read here amounts to no more than my personal experience and resulting opinion. I have been proven right and wrong many times. I ask that you consider constructive commentary when you inevitably see something here that you find disagreeable. We are all in the earliest stages of this evolution in our social consciousness; now is our opportunity to apply a higher standard of engagement than that we see day to day in the “real world”. All opinions are welcome but those delivered constructively will actually be considered.

Enough about intent; I need to post this so I can get on to my first real content.
